Amy van Weert

The idea for my graduation piece is to work around the words simplicity, elegance, and fashion. Simplicity is the basis of beauty. Anything simple yet exquisite catches attention and makes us exclaim ‘wow’—all the beauty in purity.
I will translate simplicity into my dancing, researching with my dancers the meaning behind it, finding purity through different personalities. Elegance comes in different forms to different people. Elegance celebrates your personal beauty, personal good taste, personal style, and personal sophistication. Wherever we look around, we find that beauty is simple, sleek, and structured. Simplicity doesn’t mean boring; simplicity is a natural extension of your own creativity. So simplicity in this form comes easy to you.

Together Apart

Quarantine rehearsals

Our research about simplicity goes on online

Simplicity in quarantine

Simplicity in quarantine.

“Next Monday we will reopen the stores in Belgium”.

Do they really think we are waiting to buy a new bag? To shop new shoes?

Quarantine is not making us miss materialistic things. I believe we much more miss simple things in life.

We are waiting to see our loved ones again, to give a hug, to hold a hand,… Being isolated reminds us of the importance of simple things. And the beauty of it.

There is a power and beauty in simplifying that can be hard to explain but easy to feel.
When in doubt simplify

My team!

Hey, I am Vika De Waele. I am born in Belgium in 2001. I started acrobatics gymnastics in 2008 and have done that on a high competition level. In 2013 I found a passion for dance and started at the ‘MUDA Kunstencentrum’ in Ghent. At the age of 18 I moved to Germany to study at Berlin Dance Institute. Currently, I’m in my first year of this education and I enjoy it a lot. My plans for the future are to get a bachelor in dance and then realize my dream as a performer and/or creator.

I am Nea Ilveskero, I was born in 1999 in Finland and started dancing at the age of 6. I’ve danced ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Currently I’m chasing my dreams in Berlin and studying contemporary dance at Berlin Dance Institute.

Hi, I’m Jessica Iconen. I grew up in Finland enjoying the surrounding nature all the while dancing as much as I could. My love for dance stayed with me all the way from my childhood and eventually took me to Berlin.

I’m Jassi Murad, a dancer from Palestine who is in her second year at Berlin Dance Institute. I hope to build community through dance after pursuing a professional career and attaining sufficient education to be able to bring dance to more people through performance and teaching.

Slow down

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain
Slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don’t dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won’t last.
