Working for the first time as a duo, Milla and Lauren explore everyday escapism and its relation to dreams and the flow of time. Simultaneously inspired, repulsed, bored, and brought to laughter by their previous works, they play with recycling personal themes and movements from the past, loyally and irreverently.
Milla Toppi is a dance artist originally from northern Finland. She graduated from DIE ETAGE’s dance program in 2021 with her graduation piece Kälteschlaf. Her artistic interests lie in the aesthetics of the uncanny, the search for strange and unfamiliar movements and qualities, and the emotional responses they can evoke. Her work is often inspired by visual art, such as her surrealist and minimalist piece Pottuja (2020).
Milla Toppi participated in the 2020 edition of A.PART Festival. Click here to check out her previous contributions.
Lauren Fitzgerald is an American dancer based in Berlin, Germany. In September 2021, she graduated from the three-year contemporary dance program at DIE ETAGE. She was primarily involved in the contact improvisation community in the US and Germany, before transitioning to contemporary dance. Alongside dance, she has spent her time in small-scale agriculture, visual arts and crafts, and the tech industry.
