“It was the longest yawn. Pointy toes and pointy tears. Massage me, experience! Give me a squishy sensation. Sensing with my full existence, sensing with my toes. Placing never ends. You are a mystery but somehow you belong to me. The slime runs through my body.”
The Blob is a kind of entity that has no shape. It sings, it moves and lingers in the space. It investigates the relationship between the performer and the dance and how inner sensations can create a choreographic language. The blob dances with cowboys and talks about thinking, dancing, and existing.
CHOREOGRAPHY, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE: Hugo Hedberg
Hugo Hedberg (Sweden) is an artist and dancer working in Stockholm and Berlin. His work is often interdisciplinary and explores topics such as everyday life, identity, and banality. He is curious about how to recreate material from the way we move through daily life. A recurring question in his practice is: how can we see our own being in the world as dance and choreography? Hedberg is educated in fine arts at Oslo National Academy of the Arts and is currently studying dance at Tanzfabrik in Berlin. He has presented performances at Weld in Stockholm, Rosendal Teater in Trondheim, HAUT Scene in Copenhagen, and Scenehuset in Oslo.
The Blob Club mix
I am a blob. I am a cloud. I am a lump. What are they fictional characters I inhabit? How can I enter a fictional body that can dance in another way. I can move like tall person, I can move as dog, I can feel like tank of liquid. I can dance as a blob. A blob is a kind of entity that has no shape. It has no specific knowledge but at the same time it can absorb anything. An object that never strives towards a definite form. The blob allows me to reach an energetic and sensing state where anything can happen.
The dance takes over and I start to think of the dance as something outside of myself. This way of thinking allows me to be with the dance, toaccompany and witness it. It co-exists outside of myself and inside myself. I stand on the threshold.
I am tapping in while zoning out
I am trying to enter the in-between, The Void.
I want to relax in the void, careful and curious
I never really want to get it
I am witness, I am witness to my own movement
The object is a witness to my movements
The movement quietly observes me as I go
I quietly observe the movement as I go
Together we forget what we observed and just go.
We laugh, we stop, we look, we listen, it goes away, I go somewhere and it comes back when I go around the corner. We talk, we go again. I befriend the dance. Withholding is beautiful.
a friend in the sky
an observer in my pocket
I see you around the corner
crossing streets to get a glimpse
I am a half moon
A moving transition
Going forward and around
When we move we need to transition from event to another. The transitions consist of three stages; An ending, A neutral zone and A new beginning. These stages can be repeated and become a tool to create unexpected turns. When the transition has exhausted itself something new can arise.
When I do the periephery I can see it all. The objects in the room receives a character. The green water bottle is my friend. The pilates-ball is an old acquaintance.
I am over here and it is over there. Sometimes it’s over here and I am there, then I really want to go there but all of sudden it comes to me when I am here. I don’t even have to go somewhere. I can just be, here.
my dancing is a dancing cowboy
my dancing is tapioca pearl
I am dancing cowboy
my thinking is tapioca
my thinking is cowboy
I am dancing a tapioca pearl
I am thinking about tapioca
I am dancing with a cowboy
I am dancing with tapioca
tapioca is dancing with me
the cowboy does not want to dance
